In preparation for the 2026 East Side Garden Walk this weekend, the Buffalo United Front headquarters (which we share with East Side Bike Club and the Friends of Freedom Park) on East Delevan got a little sprucing up for the occasion. We thank the folks who helped us out so we can look our best.
2026 marked another great weekend of Family Fishing in Freedom Park. Two days of Fishing, Food and Fun along the water brought our community and our families closer together in ways many events wish could happen.
This event is not just about getting free things. For 19 years, we have educated the young and old about the history of Freedom Park. The park is the sacred ground of the Underground Railroad. The Friends Of Broderick Park/ Freedom Park hope to make those in attendence aware what Our Ancestors Experienced during Slavery Time. The fishing rods, bike giveaways, Hotdogs and Hamburgers, Fish-fry, games and much more, helps get everyone here to learn the stories of Freedom Park.
Thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers and those who attended. We hope to see you all back in 2027 for the 20th anniversary of Family Fishing Days in Freedom Park.

It was an honor to speak to some young amazing scholars visiting Freedom Park from Cleveland, Ohio. Thank you Ms Lena Barbee and your awesome team at Shaker Heights City Schools Shaker Middle School and the Minority Achievement Committee (MAC) Scholars. They learned about the history of Freedom Park and the Underground Railroad Crossing to Canada 
. We also discussed the Meaning of Juneteenth, and the importance of celebrating our freedom.
The Buffalo Bike community is made up of some of best people. Over 180 cyclists including a large contingent from the East Side Bike Club joined in GoBike’s annual Cranksgiving, the annual bike
scavenger hunt to collect shelf stable foods to donate to the efforts of Food Not Bombs, Provisions 139 and the Frank G. Merriweather Jr. Library Food Pantry.
4541 pounds of food was collected to help those groups care for our neighbors in these difficult times. We are glad the weather held out while all the riders safely made their collections and returned with such a great largesse.

Even though we are headed quickly to fall, East Side Bike Club is still rolling. We defied some potentially threatening weather and made it out this past Saturday, making our own sunshine.
And we got doughnuts too. There is still plenty of time to get some riding in. If you want to enjoy the friendship of the East Side crew, just get your bike and come join us.
The annual Family Fishing Days in Freedom Park kicked off on Saturday with filled park full of families enjoying fishing, great food and a great time in the park.
